Some streetwear brands everyone should be able to know immediately, even if someone wakes you up at 3am. One such brand is Patta, a Dutch brand that is one of the creators of the streetwear community in Europe.
We've all heard a lot about the 90s, a progressive period that left a significant mark on every strand of streetwear - art, sport and music. Edson Sabajo as a DJ and MC Guillaume "Gee" Schmidt as a presenter met one day in Amsterdam in the 90s. This duo not only significantly influenced Dutch hip hop and nightlife, but also shared more than one passion. Besides music, they both collected sneakers and music vinyls. It didn't take long for the two to get together and their friendship grew into a business partnership.
They started gradually and both were surprised to see the demand for sneakers, streetwear and exclusive merchandise grow. The small platform grew into something bigger and in 2004 Edson and Gee opened Patta, a fashion boutique. One of the first few internationally recognized boutiques owned by African-Americans, it remains one of the most innovative and iconic streetwear brands in the world today because of its ability to perfectly translate its love for art, sports and music into its collections and activities - that's why Patta is not just a clothing store. There are also clothing lines like Patta Soundsystem, Patta Running Team and most recently from the Patta Foundation, focused on cultural education for youth. In short, Patta is a creative family to the core and encourages inspiring collaborations, cultural crossover in non-traditional forms. We at Footshop also support young artists, so it's a great honour to have Patta in our portfolio. Explore what Patta has to offer. We've already done that and added this iconic brand to our wardrobe, which Patta clearly is. Now it's your turn.
Fun fact: The brand is named after the slang term for 'shoe' - a tribute to the founders' Surinamese heritage."
