One of the most creations from the American designer Rick Owens would have to be the massive high-top shoe called the Geobasket. This particular model was first introduced in the 2006 Fall/Winter collections and they’re also the first shoe to be officially designed by Rick Owens. The original design of the Geobaskets differed from the current one quite significantly, with one of the main reasons being Nike.

Most high-end shoes are inspired by classic silhouettes, such as the Saint Laurent SL/10 or the Maison Margiela Replica x german army sneakers. The Geobaskets were no exception, and according to Rick Owens himself, he searched for inspiration over at Nike, as well as adidas and Puma. A lot of people picked up on the Nike part, mainly thanks to the panel on the side of the shoe, which, with its similarly placed and shaped swoosh, bore quite a resemblance to Nike’s design.

This led to the nickname “Dunk” instead of Geobasket. In 2009, people over at Nike noticed this and told Rick to remove this model from the shelves or the situation would have to be resolved with a lawsuit. Rick was, surprisingly, flatterer and happily obliged Nike. The next season, he introduced a remastered version of the Geobaskets, which are in sale to this day and you can also buy them at Footshop.
