The key to success is failure. If there’s anyone who can prove this, it’s Michael Jordan. The biggest name in basketball’s history and quite possibly in its future, was for a long time also a name that despite releasing its own sneakers, and holding a monopoly on the number of successful shots, never won the NBA title. Jordan did not win the title until finally in 1991, when he was wearing the Air Jordan 6 Carmine on his feet, which are now being rereleased years later.
“Sixes” can look like rather complicated shoes in comparison with Jordan’s previous models. The beauty of the sneakers is partially that every present element actually has a use, or at least a reason to be present.
From the side of the upper, you can see the blocks, (white in this case) which come from the legendary number 23, which Michael Jordan wore on his jersey for most of his career. The two holes on the tongue are a special feature with which you can pull the whole part hidden by the laces up. Try it just once and you’ll be forever wondering why this practicality is not just as commonplace as shoelaces. A significant part in the heel area is undoubtedly the pronounced, strong heel tab, which symbolizes (try looking at the sneakers and guessing before reading on) the spoiler of Jordan’s Porsche 911.
And there are even more interesting things about the AJ6 Carmine 2021 version. Since their debut in 1991, the sneakers have been released twice in the original colorway, most recently in 2014. Now, for the first time in 30 years, they feature a Nike Air heel and a distinctive color blocking upper, utilising two different materials for the first time.
