The community around Footshop is made up of extremely talented people and it would be a shame to not present their art to the world through clothing collections. This was the reason for starting our Footshop Local Artist series, in which we work with artists from cities flying the Footshop flag, and create a joint collection, presenting the unique style of each artist. This time we visited Bucharest.
To be completely honest, we were originally planning on releasing the third Footshop Local Artist collection quite a bit earlier. This didn’t happen, but despite the setbacks in the production process, we have now successfully completed the project. After the Czech and Hungarian collections, we now present a crop-top, a T-shirt and a crewneck directly from the Romanian Capital.
To create this collection, we teamed up with Roxana Benea, who utilises a wide range of colors and trippy motifs to create iconic illustrations and painting, which under closer inspection reveal references to current social issues and themes. The main themes for this collection were equality, accepting others and the idea that though we are all different, we are also exactly the same.
A CHALLENGE TO TRADITIONAL IMAGINATIONS
“I created the idea for the print with the intention of celebrating the joy and diversity that come with a sincere expression of individuality. Fantasy characters meet a colour palette and form a fantastic and vibrant universe. A color stain retains its organic form, giving the whole image fluidity and serving as a unifying element for all the characters” says Roxana Benea.
The editorial, courtesy of Nur Khamis wholeheartedly agrees with this narrative. “With this project, I wanted to challenge traditional ideas of femininity and show that femininity can belong to anyone” says the Bucharest fashion photographer. “I chose models that represent the new generation of Romania and the Footshop philosophy. Together, they managed to express different types of femininity in different combinations of materials, colors and textures.
