Loosely translated, this is the abbreviation behind the Japanese brand’s name – and it matches the silhouette too. It’s one of the reasons why, even after 30 years, the silhouette remains highly popular, and Asics is celebrating this anniversary with the release of an OG colorway.
The creation of the Gel-Lyte III was a difficult process, with lots of testing and studies being conducted, as well as enlisting the help of professional athletes. The design and colors of the sneaker were questioned and thought to be too wild – but the revolutionary sneaker’s designer Mitsui-San always had faith in his creation.
The first designs were immediately rejected. The technology we used was untamed and hard to work with – but I like complications. The colors we wanted to use didn’t exist, so we had to create them ourselves. I just wanted to have fun and trust my intuition.
Mitsui-San
The current colorway combining white, purple and orange was one of the first 4 OG colorways Mitsui-San designed. This is the first time since their original release they are being made again.
Speaking from my own experience, I can tell you one thing about the Asics Gel-Lyte III. These sneakers are some of the most comfortable out there. They realised this 30 years ago, when they finally gave Mitsui-San the green light, and you can come to the same realisation right now. The new release also features upgraded materials that will only enhance your experience even more.
