Take this article as a kind of precursor, because in the following months, we’ll be taking a closer look at what individual brands are doing to make their mark on the environment as little as possible.
So are sneakers and sustainability compatible? Yes. For example, making sneakers out of waste or recycled materials, as well as raising awareness is becoming a popular brand strategy.
Unfortunately, these strategies are often a one-time thing, and in the long run have a positive influence on the brand’s image rather than the presented issues. Let’s be honest, the production process of the sneakers we love is harsh on our planet. But there’s a solution to every problem.
Some projects are on a good path to changing the situation. For example Nike Space Hippie, Converse Renew or the adidas x Parley collaboration. As I mentioned at the start of the article, we’re going to keep a close eye on the situation in the following months. Until then, here’s a bit of inspiration for upcycling your old sneakers.
